THEY CAME, WE SAW, HE CONQUERED
MONDAY, May 8, 2023 – 3:15PM
In June, 1939, just three months before “The King’s Speech”, George VI and Queen Elizabeth toured their Canadian domain. On the last leg of their excursion, the Windsors accepted an invitation from the Roosevelts to visit the United States. Thousands lined the streets to greet the first reigning monarchs to visit our nation. Eleanor Roosevelt hosted the royal couple to the most famous picnic in world history.
HANDS ACROSS THE SEA
MONDAY, May 15, 2023 – 3:15PM
World War II intervened. Franklin D. Roosevelt desperately needed personal insights into our early war effort and asked his wife, Eleanor to make a first-person tour of Great Britain. George VI and Queen Elizabeth invited the First Lady to stay at their recently bombed Buckingham Palace. Once again, the Roosevelt and Windsor friendship paid unbelievable dividends for both nations.
