How many pieces of art can senior citizens in Virginia Beach receive from one request? It turns out: hundreds.
Back in March, one of First Colonial Inn’s newest associates had the idea to request original pieces of art from local children to cheer up the community’s senior residents while visitations were unavailable due to COVID-19. Within two months, the Virginia Beach senior living community received artwork via postage mail from as far as Hawaii and even emails of art from people who wanted to answer the call for gestures of love and hope during a trying time.
“We’ve received artwork, cards, and poems from babies a few months old to big kids in high school/college and their parents!” says Liz Le, sales coordinator at First Colonial Inn. “It puts a smile on their faces and they always want to send their appreciation! I reply to all the emails we’ve received and a few residents helped write thank you cards to mail to all the families and schools who have sent anything. I’ve seen the artwork hung up in residents’ windows, doorways, a wall in their apartment and a few of them have even had a piece or two framed.”
